This actually seems to be a good idea, but ScarT does have a point. It's kind of a rut we dug ourselves into.

100% of this rut is caused by all the drama that surrounds the HL2 leak and the people who work on it. Said people are constantly on edge. Everyone is highly critical of the each other, and the list goes on and on.

Case in point, our release at betaarchive. Hogsy(harhui) and ScarT were highly critical of our work. To the point where their posts were edited by a moderator. Even after I did my best to treat them both with respect.

This incident set the precedent to be defensive when someone posts something critical. This mindset only serves to further miscommunication and disrespect. I hope ScarT understands where I am coming from. No disrespect towards anyone here, just stating my thoughts and feelings.

However, why not take a page from Valve & MI's book, team together, polish several bugs, release a demo version with a possible multiplayer component, and fashion GabeNet into a server platform and updater?

That seems like a good chunk of work. I've got no issues with testing that theory out. The onus is really on Team Gaben itself.

GabeN's shown a lot of potential over the past 6 years, but it's never been proven by an actual public release. Here, we have a team who's made a real release.

No doubt that Team GabeN has talent. With the work I've seen from MI and their media for TG, they're certainly accomplished developers. Releasing stuff lets everyone else enjoy the fruits of a team's labor.

Ben's honestly out of the picture unless he hikes his @$$ back here, and don't even get me started with AGNMI, but if we get people from both teams that have an actual idea of what they're dealing with, we may very well see some progress.

I'll look at this objectively. I've seen Team Gaben's mappers, specifically Junk, and I admire his work. I've also seen slkandy's work which also looks very professional.

From the outsider's view, a collaboration effort between TG and TAP is worth a shot. If Team Gaben is open to the idea, I'm sure I could convince my team to do the same.

Afterwards, you can pull an SMOD and let the community add in mods, etc.

I know Saul and I have a lot of experience in python. We could easily add in python as a scripting language for community modifications.

I have no decision, nor faction, on this decision, however. It's all GabeN's and your decision. You can learn to work together as one team, or go separate ways, the latter being most likely.

I wouldn't call it learning so much as just putting the past behind and actually working towards a common goal.

P.S.
I'm neutral about the whole thing. I like seeing what HL2 could've been. BTW, if LamdaCore21 is reading this, THERE IS NO WAR, DAMMIT. GABEN & TAP PWN YOU AND AGNMI EVERY SINGLE DAY, AND UNLESS YOU RELEASE YOUR OWN DAMN FIX, THEY WILL CONTINUE TO PWN YOU INTO SUBMISSION. AND GABEN IS NOT A FASCIST DICTATORSHIP. THEY LIKELY LIVE IN A GOVERNMENT THAT DOES NOT SUPPORT FASCISM, NOR NAZISM, WHICH HAS BEEN DEAD SINCE 1945. YOU HAVE TAKEN THAT CONCEPT AND KARMA CHARGED IT INTO OBLIVION!

(Deeply breathes in Air)

All I can say is, a few of their members seem alright. By associating themselves with the select few hellbent on disrespect and drama, they're going to get dragged down. My advice to them: Split when you can.

This is unlikely to happen, both our teams have proven to be incompatible with each other in the past.

I don't buy into that. What's there to be incompatible about?

I'm all for a joint effort, even if it's just a little fortnight long test of the idea.

I stand by what ynh said because I feel the exact same way. He was just able to put it into words much better than I can.

Brotip: I reported the post to Andrew from BA, and he moderated it on my request.

Looking the Team page here on this site makes it obvious. We aren't in need of three more programmers. Granted we could use more mappers but we haven't seen anything that'd make us remotely interested. From a GabeN/MI point of view nothing new would be brought to the table, really. If there was an animator on this team we'd talk, but there isn't.

Its obvious someone doesn't read my blog and if they did they should be honored that I actually found it worth mentioning them.

In regards to AGNMI just ignore them, that's what we're doing. Its a bunch of kids blindly following a sad lonely German kid that's fighting a war that only exists in his head. He's trying to use GabeN as a scapegoat for losing his YouTube account. You can't win them all, and we aren't going to try.

I think that's all.

He also moderated yours.

I think all of us here read your blog. It's pretentious to state that we should feel honored. Doesn't make an ounce of difference to us if you mention us or not. Especially when your posts consisted of: "Broken shaders", "Looks like they're dead", and "Good luck to them." Oh, and when ben decided to message you with random bullshit.

The idea was more along the lines of working together rather than merging teams. On a second note, I'm more interested in the leak than anything else. Like I said, I'm open to a collaboration effort. Funnily enough, I think a few naysayers would shit themselves if this ever happened.

Personally, I don't see how it could hurt, but pardon my logical thinking.

Seems like this is the only common ground TAP and TG will ever have.
