Hello,
I wanted to say that you guys have done a fantastic job on your project, but I am having a few problems with the CS2 port and the HL1 source alpha. I've downloaded the ports from hl-beta.spb.ru, but CS2 refuses to run,
and, while HL1 sort of works with TAP(I can access most maps except for bounce and crossfire2), no NPCs spawn AT ALL. I've tried copying the base folder from both ports, but, regardless of either modded or unmodded versions, neither game works properly. On the unmodified version, both ports will give me a CTD
(crash to desktop). On TAP, I can run maps from both ports, but no NPCs will spawn in HL1, as well as no weapons from the port. The CS2 port's maps also work, but no weapons, bots, or player models are shown. Only HL2 weapons are available, and neither port is selectable. I will admit, however, that I copied and pasted the hl2 folder into the hlports folder before attempting to run it. There's also a weird setup file asking if I read a nonexistent .NFO file. Should I just make a new copy of the real leak and work with that?

Additionally, how would one successfully set up a Dedicated Server, or change the server platforms? I've expressed ideas on getting WON2 as a server provider on the leak, as seen here:
http://forums.steamlessproject.nl/viewtopic.php?t=1342

While most of the developers didn't really express interest in doing this, one particular post caught my eye:

Single player games aren't really what we cover. I can, however, sort of understand the CS:S beta thing. I know that there are a lot of efforts regarding beta versions of CS.

All I can say is, if there is a server platform out there that can run these games, and it happens to be compatible with the WON2 network, we aren't going to complain. If there isn't... well, as Warf!y said, there are plenty of people in that scene.

Not only that, but many people of the people working with that have either broken patches or don't release anything, like the infamous Team GabeN. So, since you guys have gotten Multiplayer partially working, it may be a good time to negotiate terms with a server provider like WON2.

Sincerely,
Mr. Caddyshack

Hello Mr. Caddyshack, welcome to the forums :)

In regard to your CS2\HL1 issues, I don't think the stock HL1 ports will work with TAP R1.
iirc those ports are compiled to run on an older version of Source, which is included in the HL1 ports archive. (Don't quote me on this, it's been a while since I've run the original HL1 ports).
Since NPCs and weapons specific to those ports weren't working when you ran them, my guess would be you accidentally overwrote the port .dlls (HL1\CS2) with the HL2 .dlls when you copy pasted the contents of the HL2 folder into the port folder.

As for setting up servers, I've never set one up before, not even for retail GoldSrc and Source so I can't comment on changing platforms.
I'll bring up your server questions in the next team meeting.

I hope this helps, and thanks for your interest in TAP :)

Sorry, the HL and CS ports won't run on our patch. Until we release those ourselves we can't help you there.

In regards to WON2, there would be two problems with such an arrangement: 1. A former team member (who did not leave on good terms) is a part of that project and 2. Valve would likely be more hostile towards WON2 as well as us if we were to release a leaked version of CS:S there, partially because a fixed version of the CS:S found in the leak would require pirated resources from retail.

As far as I know, running a dedicated server in the leak is more or less the same as running HLDS in retail. Although, I've never attempted to run one before in the leak so I wouldn't know.

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH ALREADY FIXED WIP BROKEN PROBABLY PUTTING ON MODDB EXCEPT FOR CS2

Note that I don't have much experience with fixes. I could use plenty of help finding the right engine.dll file, though. I've tried running CS2 with the clean leak's engine.dll, and your engine.dll, but nothing's helped. Any suggestions or help from people who know how to fix these errors?

Sincerely,
Mr. Caddyshack

Before I forget, it would also be advisable to add support for these ports in the next release.

You seem like you have an agenda since you're pushing WON2 and telling my team what to do.

Let me state for the record: HL2 takes precedence over any other mods that are in the leak. Release 2 by no means will encompass the whole leak. It is not meant to be our final HL2 release.

It is however, meant to be a major improvement over R1 which was frankly, due to stupid mistakes being made.

This is not an attempt by me to be rude, but rather to set the record straight. I've been working on the CS port steadily in my down time (or when I am bored with HL2). But frankly, this is 6 year old code that I'm working with. And it's a major pain in the ass. Content-wise, HL2 is much more complete, hence we are more motivated to work on it.

CS is probably our next project since HL1 seems to be pointless on the source engine.

In regards to your problems:
You aren't going to be able to get our DLLs to run in a stable fashion by mixing and matching it with other patches. This is because other patches use different code bases, meaning there is binary incompatibility between patches.

Not to mention, R1 wasn't even properly compiled by the person who released it (ben).

I do appreciate your interest in our project, but all differences aside, HL2 is our main focus and will continue to be so for some time. We will probably have multiplayer for HL2 up and running (albeit probably somewhat buggy).

Blaming Ben for everything seems pretty easy for you guys. Perhaps you should've done something yourself too?

I also find it quite hilarious (not really) that you've stolen our emots.

Considering the fact that he released it within about 2 minutes of us discussing it, we didn't really have much of a chance to go into damage control mode. You had the retard on your team and you kicked him for the same reasons we did.

Let me know what you would've done given what happened (above sentences).

Secondly, these are the standard emotes minus these three: :lolcry: :lmao: :laugh_:
I didn't do the forums, so someone else is to blame for that.

Yeah, I'll admit that I've had a pretty busy agenda lately. Sorry about all that- there just has no multiplayer fix for the leak released yet. I have been working a bit more on fixing up CS2 and the port- The port's had a lot of progress, and I've almost gotten CS2 to work, but a server.dll error caused it to crash. I haven't really been using any patches for the leak as source, though- most .DLLs have come from either the HL1 source port or the clean HL2 leak. However, I can wait for R2, considering that it's only a few months away from release.
8-)

Also, ScarT?

Whoa, that was unexpected.

I'll have to test R2's engine binaries with other patches. The problem is our engine is modified so the patch engine binaries might not be compatible with our engine. I'll see what I can do about that if I've got some time this week.
